Waking up (in) Hungary
H-girl woke up a bit disoriented at the Austrian-Hungarian border. "Where I am?" she thought. Then she remembered, P-girl had suggested they take the bus to Budapest after their ease getting to Bratislava yesterday. They check out the prices (28 euros round trip) and think, "Why the fuck not?" They woke up at 545 am and trudged to the bus station across town in the snow (ok, ok, via the U-banh - can't a girl be dramatic?).
So, back to the border crossing. Passports were stamped (much to H-girl's delight) and they completed the 3 hour ride. They arrive at the bus station in Budapest and take an hour to secure a map, some forint (P-girl pulled a "Danie" and took out 75,000 forint (approx USD$358, USD$1~f200)), and found a bathroom, which they had to pay f70 for (and some of the roughest toilet paper EVER! definitely not Charmin).
By the way, P-girl was convinced she knew what she was doing when she got cash. H-girl got f8000. P-girl, with a slight air of superiority said, "I only need f7500," a direct reference to H-girls spending habits, and proceed to get 10 times the desired amount. Heh, heh... see what happens when you make fun of H-girl???
P-girl will fill you in about the drama we encountered in the subway. Needless to say, H-girl wanted to kick some ass once she figured out what happened. She was not feeling Budapest at all.
OK, so fast foward past the ride into town and lunch. After lunch, they decide to walk around in the snow and try to do some sightseeing. After finally figuring out where they were, the headed to St. Michael's Basilica. Very stunning in the snow.
H-girl went wild at a nearby shop and they managed to get postcards and stamps. After filling out the postcards and mailing them, they headed back to the bus station and back to Vienna.
They were back in Vienna before 6pm, tried to go to a museum (but it was closed). H-girl has to go in the worst way, so dropped trou under a tree in the middle of the Museum Quartier. They finally headed off to dinner with an abnormally grouchy P-girl (she was hungry and had to pee - though why she didn't drop trou with H-girl we don't understand - those who know here understand this mood). More shopping and then back to the hostel to back for a flight to Kiev.
Next time, our heroines will be filling you in on the adventures from Ukraine. Stay tuned.
